Getting to the Island

Planes, trains, and automobiles -- and ferries too!
Nantucket's Chamber of Commerce site for all ways of getting to the island

Our guests will likely take one of the following routes to the island:

#1: For those on the east coast, drive to Hyannis and take the ferry to Nantucket.

#2: For those who will be flying, either:
  • Fly to Boston, rent a car and drive to Hyannis, and take the ferry to Nantucket. (It sounds complicated, but it's really not! If you haven't spent much in the area, it's a good way to see some sites.) One option might be hire a van shuttle from Logan airport in Boston to the ferry terminal in Hyannis -- we would be happy to put you in touch with others interested in this option.
  • Fly to Nantucket, likely via Boston.
The following information should help you get to the island, no matter how you will be arriving.

Ferries from Hyannis to the Island
Reservations are strongly encouraged for either ferry, and are required if you plan to take your car on the ferry (although a car is not really needed on the island as there's lots to see in town and bikes, taxis, and rental cars are available for seeing the rest of the island). The fast ferries are a good option for those who are interested in coming for the wedding and reception but plan to stay off island on the Cape.

Steamship Authority (slow and high-speed ferries)
This is offers the old school way (=slower) to get to the island. With three ferries making the trip each day (during the fall) between Hyannis and Nantucket, The Eagle takes two hours and carries cars, bikes, and walk-on passengers. Parking is provided by the ferry terminal for those not willing to pay $380 roundtrip to bring your car (which you don't need) on island! There is also a fast ferry that takes an hour. $33 roundtrip for adult walk-on passengers on the slow ferry, $65 roundtrip for adult walk-on passengers on the fast ferry. Different fares apply for children and bikes.

Hi-Line Cruises (includes high-speed ferry)
This is the newer, faster way to get to the island. With six ferries (during the fall) between Hyannis and Nantucket, the "fast" ferry takes an hour and carries bikes and walk-on passengers. $78 roundrtip for adult walk-on passengers. Different fares apply for children and bikes.

Once on the Island
If arriving by ferry, you can walk to many of the Bed and Breakfasts and Inns. Taxis are also available at the ferry terminal.

If arriving by airplane, taxis and rental cars are available at the airport.
